Charleston w/ the Girls

Last year I turn the big 40 and I had always said that when I turn 40 that I had some ways I wanted to celebrate..

1. A cruise
2. A girls weekend at the beach or mtns
3. A couples weekend at the beach or mtns
4. A big surprise party with all my friends and family

Well, I didn't do any of those nor did I get to the goal that I wanted.. Yes, I thought I would wake up on my 40th and look like Sheryl Crow boy did I cry when I didn't.... So, I am always late for everything so I guess I will be late doing my celebration bash. Don't get me wrong I had a good b'day with dinner at Kanpai with some friends, my friend Regina sent me black flowers, the girls at work gave me a surprise b'day lunch and did all the 40th stuff all that stuff was really great and appreicated but I also wanted one of my 4.

My friend Amy had a b'day in December and we started talking about how we would love to go somewhere over night and she had mention she had never been to Charleston. So, I called up my other friends Ree and Ginger (I was actually suppose to be taking a cruise with them so I guess this was the next best thing) and ask if they were gain to go too. So, here is one thing off my list that I wanted to do when I turn 40. I work for a company that I can get discounts at Hilton and Marriott brand hotels so I set off to search what I could get. I got us a room at Doubletree at the corner Church and Market St it was a 2 room suite, valet parking, beautiful hotel, center of Market just totally awesome and we paid only $44 (this include tax), not $44 a piece but $44 for the room for the night so that was like $11 and then another $19 for valet parking so for one night we all paid $16.. You can't beat that and trust me I keep on going on the web to see when I get that hotel again and take Eric down there for that price. Well, we all were just excited to go and on Friday afternoon we were like why are we not going down today, why are we waiting to go tomorrow. So at 6pm on friday night we are calling each other back and forth and by 7 we deceide to even though none of us are pack we are going. I had to hurry and pack and get the room for Friday night too but I couldn't get it for that price (Hilton only allows so many discounts a month). So I went on Marriott and we got Springhill Suites on the river for $44 (includes tax) for friday night so we paid $11 a piece to get there at 12:15am.. Amy lives in Easly and then the rest of us live in Spartanburg so we meet in Ft.Inn and left Gingers van at my sister house for the weekned. By 9pm we are hitting 385 and heading to Charleston one stop in Clinton to get me dinner (everybody else had eaten but I had not had time) and the girls some coffee and we made another stop closer to Charleston for a bathroom break. We get there at 12:15 in bed lights out and we stayed up talking and laughing until 3:30am.. It was all worth it...

Satuday we get up and get ready and head out in search of breakfast or brunch whatever you want to call it. Ginger is the one in the group that is our DJ and our food source. So she made the comment we should eat somewhere we don't normally eat at home. We found a little place on Savannah Highway called The Early Bird and let me tell ya it was really good. We got a bacon, egg, cheese (we think goat cheese) on a crossiant and it was huge and really good and then harsh brown but they also had something I think called sweet potato fries or something so we got a order of those cause everybody around us were talking about how wonderful they were and I have to say they were... For there we went into downtown and started looking for our hotel. Now, let me say Eric and I for christmas got a GPS and this trip it really work great and I was thankful that we had it but down in those street we did get confuse but we finally found the hotel. They had a room ready for us so we got to check in at 12:30 instead of 4.. After we got in the room and oh and ah over everything and had the bellhop guy take our pic we took off and hit the Market and then we deceided to take a carriage tour and our rt was the French Qtrs. Our tour guide was from Taylors-Greer and just made the tour really insteresting and fun. We stop afterwards and grab a snack at TBonz and then finish the Market. Then onto the room to freshen up and head to place in Mt. Pleasant called The Wreck... now let me tell Bertha (our GPS) took us through this beautiful neighborhood to this end of the road that looked shady (not a keeping the sun off shady but the shady as in trouble). There was this long dirt rd we couldn't decide if that was it or not, then all the boats like at a ship yard and we knew that was not it but there was a place w/ cars out in front of and it looked like a dump but we knew it look something like that so we got in and found out we were in the right place... NOw, I am going to go off tell ya a funny story (by the way I have left alot of them out cause we said our weekend was "in the vault" you know what happens or is said in Charlestons stay there) but this is not about one of us.. I was trying to take a pic of the girls in front of the sign that says The Wreck and this lady that was a local ask if she could take our pic so we said that would be great and it took her awhile and we were in alot of peoples way and when she handle the camera back she said that was really a great pic of y'all.. I did something that I forget I erase that pic and I hate that did cause I am dening you of a good laugh.. it was a blurry pic of our some of our legs.. I guess she thought we had nice legs.. Ok so we go in this place and there are fireplaces lite, alot of locals, they give you a menu and tell you to circle what you want. I wanted shrimp and scallops w/ a baked potato and salad but here you pick your meat and all the food comes with red rice, hush puppies, cole slaw and then something called homiey which is fried grits and had jalenpos in them so I didn't even attempt to try it. It was fresh and good but I am a cheapo so paying $20 and then leaving a tip for a total of $25 is to high but it was a weekend of adventure and fun and I didn't mind.. We paid and headed out and we were outside taking pics and who walks out our friend that thinks her pic are wonderful now she wants to take one out in front of the anchor.. oh course I didn't want to be rude and tell her no so I let her while she was getting her glasses out we were all laughing and wondering how this pic will look, I guess the glasses help out... So after all the pics where done somebody had told us to go to a place called Red's on Shim Creek they always had a band and karkoe and the view was great... Ok, the view was great, the food looked good but we were stuff but sitting there watching the Panthers and Cardinals play football, the college kids drinking and partying and well the 2 girls being really friendly we decided it was time to go. We headed back to our hotel left the car and yep the camera and walked Market St and saw all the night life and heard some great music and even dance some.. When we got back in the room the girls had surprise me and they had a b'day gift for me. Now you have to know Amy had only met Ginger 1 time about 2 wks before this trip and never has met Ree and come to fine out they had been going behind my back and doing this.. My friend Amy is the one that sells Thirty-One and if you read my post about that you know I have been wanting this one pocketbook. Well they went in together and got the pocketbook and the key fob and I have order the wallet so I will have my first whole pocketbook set.. I feel grownup now..lol

Sunday we got up, got ready and packed and checked out as we were walking to the car we notice that the back tired was flat. Oh my, what are we going to do. Thanks to Ginger she talked the valet guy in getting somebody out there from maintance and having air put in the tire and Amy notice there was a nail in the tire. We were told that it was a slow leak and we could make it back but we didn't want to chance it so we type in Pep Boys in Bertha (GPS) and she told us where to go. We went and had the tire plug and then went on to Shoney's to feed our hungry tummies and then headed home..

All in all we had a wonderful weekend of laughter, adventure and wonderful friendship. Love ya girls, thank you for making my b'day special!!!!!!!!!!!

So what about the other 3 things I had wanted to do when I turn 40 well for Eric's 40 we are planing a couples cruise or trip to all exlusive resort so that would be 2 down at one time.. The party well maybe I will give it to him or one of my friend that is turning 40. I did give Ryan one for his 16th so maybe we will count that...

Here are the pics from the weekend..

We the next one to see my homecoming...

10 Thankful Things Thursday (10TTT)

A friend of mine sends me her daily devotions and when I saw this I thought it was only fitting for Thankful Thursday.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PRAISE OR THANK ME TOO MUCH. As it is written, I inhabit the praises of My people. Sometimes your adoration is a spontaneous overflow of Joy, in response to radiant beauty or rich blessings. At other times your praise is more disciplined and measured-an act of your will. I dwell equally in both types of praise. Thankfulness, also, is a royal road to draw near Me. A thankful heart has plenty of room for Me.

When you thank Me for the many pleasures I provide, you affirm that I am God, from whom all blessings flow. When adversity strikes and you thank Me anyway, your trust in My sovereignty is a showpiece in invisible realms. Fill up the spare moments of your life with praise and thanksgiving. This joyous discipline will help you live in the intimacy of My Presence.

Psalm 22:3 (KJV); Psalm 146:1-2; 1 Thessalonians 5:18

What am I thankful this Thursday....

1. I am thankful for the best husband in the world...

2. I am thankful for the best friends that a girl could have.

3. I am thankful for the job that I have that I get great rates on Marriott and Hilton brand hotels

4. I am thankful that Eric's job is not slowing down like a lot of other contractors are.

5. I am thankful we were able to go to Charleston on Friday night instead of Saturday morning.

6. I am thankful the weather was nice all day Saturday.

7. I am thankful for all my facebook and blogger friends.

8. I am thankful for all the reconnection of my high school and co-workers friends.

9. I am thankful I came home to a CLEAN house that even smelled good.

10. I am thankful and bless for every one that surrounds me in my life and for the will and plan that God has in place for me and how He has used and is using each and every person.. Yes, I am truly bless and thankful....

PS: When I get to post about my girl weekend and my b'day I will go into detail about some of these that I am thankful for...

Happy B'day Eric

HAPPY 39TH TO MY HUBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is his last year in the 30's and then he will be an old fart like me..lol

I thought this morning I was going to get him a great b'day present but everything work out... We just put brand new tires on my van on Saturday well when I went to drop Stephen off this morning he open the door and I heard this loud hissing sound like air escaping somewhere, well Stephen inform me it was my tire so I got out I could hear it hissing but it was not flat so I took off to Discount Tire praying the whole way that I would make it and talking to Eric and telling him how much I hope I make it cause I would hate for him to deal with this on his rainy b'day. Well thank goodness I made and they had me fix up in 25 mins. I had ran over a piece of mental...

My husband like many is not a man of "wants" so of course us putting tires on my van was enough b'day celebration for him. Eric is a hard worker, a great daddy, puts up with me and I guess that is really saying alot. So tonight even though we both have places to be I am going to make one of his favorite meals and a cake like we always do but on top of it he will be getting a present he has no clue about... Eric likes Larry The Cable and the last time we saw him was like 7 yrs ago so I hope he is really going to enjoy this. Now, I just have to figure out what to do for his 40th, Daytona 500 race, cruise or Richard Petty Driving school to where he can go and drive a race car???? I have a year to save and plan..

Happy b'day to the man of my dreams, I pray for many more together.Love ya...

Whats in store for 2009?

I have really enjoyed reading everybody 2008 highlights and all the pics and if I had time (I really need to get off of here and get the Christmas stuff down and the house clean and all that fun stuff) I would probably do it too... Instead I want to know what your 2009 resolution is??? I am still trying to decide rather to make one or not cause like I heard yesterday "Why make promises that you can't keep".. Here are some that I would like to keep...

1. As always I say I want to loose weight and get healthy but it seems every year I say that I gain the weight instead so I don't want to say that this year...

2. I reallllly want to get my house in order and painted and some updates done. Our house is to small for the 5 of us and when we moved here it was a 5 yr plan and now it is 6 yrs and we are still in it and every time I mention moving Eric says we can move to Goucher now if you don't know where that is let me tell ya it is between Paclot and Gaffney and there is NOTHING around there. I am a country girl but I do like be able to run out at 10 to get milk and back at home by 10:10.. So, I need to be happy here and just get somethings done...

3. I want to be a better friend. I want to listen more, send b'day cards out you know all that stuff...

4. Going with that I want to be compassionate and more forgiving. I have a heart but sometimes I don't know how to use it and I am giver but I want to give more...

5. I want to spend time with my kids and husband more and not be on the go so much. But I do have 2 teenage boys and they are on the go too.. Maybe we can have a family vacation this year where we all go...

6. I want to learn something new this year rather it is a craft, a language, or whatever I want to learn something. I would really like to go back to school for nursing but somewhere I don't have to do shots...YUCK

7. I want to be more positive and look at things on the positive side not look for the bad.

8. I want to continue reconnecting w/ family and friends and continue those relationships..

9. But the most important one and if I don't do the above 8 I want to know my God more. I want to spend more time with him and I want to share who is more. You know it is easy to get on the computer, to watch TV, read, talk to friends, go out but for some reason it is like you can't make time for what really matters. This year I pray to make the time. I pray to grow closer and to know him more on a personal level. I pray for family devotion nights, I pray to do a couple devotion with my husband. I pray for God to be the center of our family...

I look forward to 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girl's Night Out

So, for the last month or so it has been CRAZY around here and I have been running one way or another so myself and a couple of my friends took a night off and went to eat mexican and then went off to see Four Christmas and then to Barnes & Noble for coffee (well they did).. It was a fun night to let our hair down and just laugh and let all the stress from the past month to go away.

Never a dull moment

Kim & Shelia are a delight to be around

I think she is still trying to figure out why she came w/ this group..

Shannan was my date for the night

My friend and co-worker Beth, I am so proud of her for coming out with a bunch of strangers

Trouble on the back make out row

They kept the popcorn going for us, but watch out for them too

We ran into Hannah and Hannah at Barnes and Noble

I love these girls, they are some of the best friends you can have

The late crew

Christmas

My top 8 favorite moments of Christmas 2008

1. Going to my first Christmas Eve service and seeing all the people who come out to celebrate the birth of our Jesus.

2. Watching Tyler savor every single thing from his stocking to the his presents. He did really get alot but he still has not open everything.

3. Seeing Tyler's face as he open up his Gamecube

4. Seeing Ryan's face when he saw that Santa brought him his very own bass and case for it

5. Hearing the beating drums of Stephen playing Guitar Hero cause that means I don't have to get real drums yet.

6. Staying in my pj all day and laying around watching movies and now worrying about the house or the dishes or anything but relaxing and listening and watching my kids.

7. Keeping everything a secret and hide this year from the older 2. Can't snoop if it is in my car..lol

8. Tyler making Jesus a b'day cake and what he said... "I hope Jesus has his eyes close" and when I asked why "Cause I don't want him to see what I am doing until his cake is done..opps," me "what", Tyler "I hope he didn't hear me cause then it would not be surprise" Happy birthday Jesus, we love you!!!!!!

Christmas w/ the Darwins

The past couple of years our good friends Tim and Ginger Darwin have invited us to come and spend Christmas Eve with them. Her dad gets a country ham every year and he cooks that and along with her mom they cook eggs, bacon, grits, flat biscuit, red eye gravy it is all good and we are so happy they invite us. This year Ginger invited another lady from church Deanna and her 2 kids. The kids ate in one room, the men in another and us ladies got to eat in the fancy dining room cause we don't mess like the men and kids lol..... We have a great night of fellowship and we are thankful to have great friends like them...Afterwards we went by and saw the lights my friend Kim Hewitt talked about on her blog and they are great.. The only bad thing about this night is my boys "think" they are to grown up to come and spend the time w/ us so they went over to Billy's house to play Call of Duty and hang out... I miss them being little too and being w/ us but it is ok I have them ALL day Christmas day right now... Ryan and I did go to the Christmas Eve service he was playing so I had to sit along cause Stephen was asleep already and Tyler was not feeling good by now and Eric had to stay home w/ him and start getting ready for Christmas day... Maybe next year we will all get to go together.
